Many remanufacturers simply reset OEM chips when rebuilding cartridges. Some don't use proper chips at all. If you are receiving an error from your printer relating to the smart chip, this could be the reason. Occasionally, as with any computer component, there are genuine defects with the smart chips, and you may simply have a faulty one.
